Credit
Counseling: Oklahoma
Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Lawyers
What
is Credit Counseling?
There
are two courses that are required of someone who is filing a Chapter 7
bankruptcy. The first is the Pre-Petition Credit Counseling course. This
is a mandatory course that you must take prior to filing. It does
cost money. Only an agency
authorized by the Office of the United States Trustee can issue you a
valid credit counseling certificate. Your attorney can give you the
contact information for you to either do the course online or in person.
At the end of the course you will receive a Credit Counseling
Certificate or one will be sent to your attorney. This certificate will
be filed along with your Chapter 7 petition. After you file, and
typically after the 341 meeting of the creditors, you will take a second
course. This is called Post-Petition Debtor Education/Financial
Management. A certificate will also be issued for this course and filed
by your attorney.
